Is it true that you can’t have your job guaranteed in the navy?
I want to be a cryptolinguist, but the navy’s telling me that they can’t guarantee anything. However, a friend of mine was in the navy already knowing what job she wanted to do, and was able to get it written into her contract? So what’s the deal? Do you just have to nag the recruiters enough until they cave and give you what you want, or do they really have no power to secure a job for you?

you can be guaranteed a shot at A school.. IF you qualify for it and IF the rating is open.
the recruiter has no say or pull. Only the Classifier at MEPS can offer you a rating.
but there is no negotiation.. you either take what they offer, or you do not enlist
